2020 CPSARA AWARD WINNERS STORIES - Gordon
Over the next few months, we will showcase our 2020 CPSARA Award Winners. COVID19 restrictions meant that celebrating their achievements in person weren't possible this season. Instead, we will celebrate their stories together and hear from each of our athletes. Our award winners will share with us what these awards mean to them, their best achievements and favourite memories from last season as well as how they have adapted to overcome COVID19 and of course, their goals for next season and beyond!
I competed at two international events during the 2020 season. The first was the UCI Cat 1 Para track International in December 2019 in Brisbane. This was a preparation event for the Aus Team before Track Worlds in January and was also the event that I broke the World Record in too. The second international event of the season was the 2020 Para Track World Championships in Canada at the end of January 2020. This was a great experience because we got to have our preparation camp in Los Angeles and I think we were one of the last sports to have an international comp before COVID-19. I am always honoured every time I get the opportunity to suit up in the green and gold, and represent Australia. I'm thankful that CPSARA recognise this achievement to all their athletes who put in the hard work to get to that level!
My best achievements this season include defending my nation title in the C2 Men's 1km TT, I then broke the world record in the mens C2 Men's 1km TT and came 3rd in the C2 Men's 1km TT at the 2020 Para Track World Championships.
I was pretty lucky to be provided with a stationary trainer for the track bike from NSWIS, so I was able to get my velodrome sessions done at home which was great. I also resumed my university studies online after initially deferring for the year to focus on Tokyo. So I was pretty busy during lockdown. Competition is starting back up over the next few months and I'm keen to get back into it all, that's for sure!
At the moment, the big goal is to continue to post good times and make the team for Tokyo 2021 and make the podium at the games if I get there. Beyond that, the next goal is to win a World Championship on the track and break the World Record again.
